of Prayer for the United Church of
Christ. The Calendar distributed to
the over 6,300 congregatio in the
denomination nationally. foreign
missionaries and sister churches
abroad. Many individuals, prayer
groups. nd worship services around
the globe foc on the daily prayer
concern.
This year' article focuses on the
work of the United Church Benton
Harbor Nelpborhood Projce and
also on the work of the Neighbor
hood Information and Sharing Ex
cbanJe (NISE). The two groups have
worked closely together in a pro
gram of rehabilitation of home of
low-income home owners, and in
support of neighborhood group .
The Neighborhood Projec I a
coalition of six local churches: The
First Congregational United Church
of Christ In Benton Harbor and the
First Congregational United Church
of Christ, Pilgrim Congregational
United Church of Olri t, Riverview
Park Christian Church (Disciples of'
Christ). S1. Peter' United Church of
Christ, and Zion Evangelical United
Church of Christ, all of St. Joseph.
The Neighborhood rojccts have
received support from the Southwest
Michipn Association of the United
Church of Christ ad the Michigan
Region of the Christian Church (Di -
clples of Christ). NISB has received
support from the United Cburch
Board for Homeland Mlnistri .
The Neighborhood Projects is
currently sponsoring a children's
education -Self-Enhancement Pro
gram" at the Benton Harbor church.
The recommended prayer for July
7 is: "Oraciola God, we pray this day
for the people of Benton Harbor and
for people everywhere who live with
little opportunity, for those who are
afraid of the drug dealer on the
comer, for young men and women
unable to find jobs, for school offi
cials near burnout. May they know
the love of Chri t, that tOgether we
may proclaim hope and recover our
pride."
