According to a recent study reported in the Journal of the American
Medical Association. the use of alcohol and aspirin at the same time can
lead to unexpected increases in blood alcohol concentrations. Individu-
in the tudy were given identical breakfasts and alcohol in orange jui ceo
Some were given two 500 milligram aspirin tablets. Tho who too the
aspirin had blood alcohol concentration that were 26 percent higher than
those who did not take aspirin.
Researchers indicate lhatalthough th level of blood alcohol increase,
is not dramatic, the increase i enough to "alter person's respon time
and make the person 100 impaired to drive or operate m hinery."
Reseachers consider the findings important because food in til tom h
usually keeps blood alcohol level low . Apparently, wh_en aspirin is pres
ent. blood level are enhanced.
