The 'Male Academy will be an
all-male grade school with an

Black males are too important to
the community to just write them
off. He recommended a number
of social remedies including the
use of street workers (or gangs,
genuine prison rehabilition and
public service employment for

ganizing transportation for teens
to reach plentiful jobs in the sub
urbs.
"If we believe we can win the
external war in the Mideast, we

internal war against the Black
male," said Hubbard.

Workers Local 1529 in Indianola.
Mississippi ended their three
month strike December 15 with a
victory against Delta Pride, the
largest catfish processor in the
world.
The strike' centered around
demeaning treatment of the most- .
iy-women workers, health and
safety issues, and inadequate
pay. It W8 the largest trike of
African-American workers in
Mississippi history. It quickly
became a civil rights and labor
struggle, and attracted
widespread national support.
The workers, many of whom
suffer (rom repetitive motion in
juries, won the right to form a
health and safety .cornmittee
made up of workers and manage-
I ment. Wages will increase im
mediately by 65 to 85 cents per
hour for all workers with a mini
mum of. one year eniority.
Management originally offered
6.5 cents. Union representatives
will hav� full access rights within
the plant anti workers can take
contract di putes to arbitration.
Additionally. the strike ended
the company' practice of limit:
ing bathroom breaks to six per
week and. gave one additional
non-meal break to those working
a shift of ten hours or more.
THE • TTLEMENT re-
quire that 75 strikers be brought
back by January 3 and 30 more
recalled each week until all arc
back on the job.
The Delta Pride worker were
jubilant, calling their strike a vic
tory for labor anti a return to
workplace dignity. "We can go
back to work with our heads up,"
one said.
