LL Cool J Buries Hatchet With Hip-
LL Coo) J j one of few rap
star who been cranking out
hi t record i nee the carl y
days of hip-hop.
He' had hi hare of up
and down ,but wi th hi .latc t
ingle, "The Boomin ' Sys
tem", toppi ng the charts
"Uncle L" i once again
riding high! And the musical
diversi ty of hi new album,
"Mama Said Knock You ou:
proves that LL Cool J is con
stantly growing a an rti t.
But on the eriou tip, LL'
been c tching some n k over
the lyric to his hit, "The
Bo omin ' System", which
orne thin glorifie drug u e
a well a drinking and driv
ing, and LL ay folks have
mi interpreted.
However. it i the verbally
viciou hit "To Da Break Of
Dawn", which wa featured
on the oundtrac to Kid 'n
Play hit movie "House
Part ", that ha dr wn the
rna t controver y.
LL wa in th middle a
a e heavy di ar when h
recorded that t and he fire
orne tingmg hot at Ice T
and M.C. Hammer In the
song. But LL ay the bitter
ne that pawned "To Da
Break Of Dawn" i old news.
Today, he' friends with
hi former enemies.
"Anybody that I talked about
on the "Break of Dawn,"
we're all cool now.
Everybody hook hand and I
have no complaint or noth
ing to say b d about them."
Fact i , LL Cool J' Mama
Said Knock You Out" album
takes him to the next pha e,
creatively. He's even adopted
a new look! The trademark
warm-up suits and Kangol
hat LL's been portin" ince
the mid-SO are long gone!
Yet while LL may have
changed hi appearance, he'
the arne 01' guy-and he
really doe n't want to be
anyone or anything cl e! For
example, he recently Iini hed
filming a detective movie
with Michael J. Fox nd
Jame Wood called "The
Hard Way".
But even though the flick'
bound to win him a lot of
r ,cognition. as an actor, LL
ay he doe n t have the
de ire to give up hip-hop for
the big screen! And he' real
critical of artist who over
shoot them elves by trying to
do everything under the un!
"I don't want to be an
actor" LL tate em ph tical
Iy. "I have no desire to be on
the set trying to be Eddie. I'm
LL. I make my mu ic." And,
making def mu ic i what LL
Cool J is all about!
In fact, this veteran r pper
was gettin' busy when a lot of
today's hot, young hip-hop
stars were ju t learning how
to rap. He' stayed at the
front of the pac by con tant
ly evolving and his new
. album ha already taken him
to an even higher plateau!
LL Cool J' packi ng a
mu ical power punch, and
he' gonn knock a whole
latta folk out before thi
album 1 through!
