Detroit Monday. June 4. to
meet with officials from the
U.S. Department of Hou ing
and Urban Development to
di cu s the City's Community
Development Bloc Orant
program (CDBO).
The City wa given until
the first of June by HUD to
pre ent a plan to them for the
operation of the CDBO pro­
gram.

the problems," said Wolf.

If the CD department is
abolished, the city can take
the administration portion of
each grant to pay city staff.
The result is a savings to the
general fund at the expense of
jobs in the CD department.
Wolf said within the next
30 days more definite plans
for the program will be
presented.
IN OTHER BUSINESS
the city commission vote to
award a contract to Klett Con-
truction Co., of Hartford,
Michigan, for the amount of
S 108,294.60 for street and
parking improvement and
two parking lots in the city's
downtown area.
According to the resolu­
tion, the project will be
funded by the Downtown
Development Authority and
the Michigan Urban Land A -
embly Loan.
Manning said $32,000 of
the fund i coming from the
Michigan Urban Land As­
ernbly Loan and the rest from
Downtown Development
Authority.

the resolution, because it did

Manning said the project
include improvements on
Fourth and Sixth Streets and
parking lots on Water and
Wall Streets.
He also said there will be
work on the curbs and gutters
and the sidewalks near the
City's Busines s Growth Cen­
ter (Incubator) in the North of
Main Industrial Park area.
The funds from the Michigan
Urban Land Assembly will go
toward the work on the curbs,
gutters and sidewalk near the
Business Growth Center.
He stated that Wall Street
will be the last phase of the
project.
The parking lot project at
77 Wall Street will he ex­
cluded until the litigation be­
tween Charle Kelly and the
City of Benton Harbor is
resolved, said Wolf.
There were two other bid
besides Klett. They include,
Consumer' Asphalt, Benton
Harbor, for 60,404.60 and
Whelan Con truction, Benton
Harbor, for S115,883.45.
Consumer's bid was low be­
cause they only bid on the a -
phalt part of the project.
