The King David quintet
featuring Milton Bennett, will
perform reggae and soca music
of the Caribbean. June 22. On
June 29, the female jazz quartet,
Straight Ahead," (Metro Times
"Best Small Combo" for 1989)
featuring le d violinist Regina
Carter, bassist Marion Hayden,
keyboard artist Eileen Orr and
drummer Gaelynn cKinney,
will wrap up the concer serie .
All performances are free to
the public and will take place on
the terrace of the Museum of
African American History.
The audience is encouraged to
bring lawn chairs or blankets.
Performances will be held in­
doors in the event of rain.
The free lecture series, "Un­
derstanding African American
Music will kick off on J we 6
with the topic, "Spirituals,
Traditional Gospel, and Blues."
The series continues on June 13
with "African American Jazz,
Americ 's Only Original
Music." On June 20, "Rhythm
and Blues/Soul and Contem­
porary Gospel," is the topic of
