R ga Sta/fRepotter DETRorr I Andre Amo , an African American male, was shot by Ferndale police officers while fleeing after alledgely robbing a janitorial supply store, at 8 Mile and Woodward. Witnesses say Amos turned and shot at police officers with one hand while elutching a bag with the other. Neighborhood residents Shirley Baldwin and Stanley Brock said they were there when the incident occurred. Baldwin said when she saw the suspect lay down and rub his leg she didn't think he was seriously hurt, but he died. "I saw him fall," she said. Someone said call 911. I said th heck with it, he ain't hurt. He rubbed his leg for a few minutes. I didn't think he was hurt." Brock admitted, he along with other witnesse "essentially watched (Amo ) die." The Ferndale police depart­ ment could not be reached for comment. However, Brock said reports indicate that Amos was a troubled Detroit resident. Either Mr. Amos was on crack (cocaine) and wasn't in hi right mind or he just didn't care anymore." Amos who wa 26 died of gun hot wound . Police from Detroit and Ferndale cha ed him from the scene of th crime in Ferndale aero 8 mile into Detroit. He allegedly stole $500 at gun point when a police officer walked into the Ferndale janitorial upply store. He fled, firing shots at of- .
