The recent meeting of Bush
and Gorbachev at the Mal a
Summit seem to hold out new
promise that a world which has
been burdened by the dverse
effects of cold war and am d
dening, insane arms race may
now be on the brink of new era
where the resources of the great
powers can now be u ed to con
vert. guns into butter.
The prospect and promise of
such an era can only be realized
if the overwhelming majori y of
the citizen of our global vil age
our committed to the trium h of
good over evil.
What Albert chweitzer
called the spiritual and ethical
forces of progress must com to
guide and lead the material for
ces of progress.
Thi . essentially the m -
sage that the "Prince of Peace
came to bring a strife tom world
nearly 2,000 year ago. Our
world is still waiting for us to
convert our basic i tincts of
decency and kindne s into a
daily ethnic that can rescue
humanity from misery and tur
moil.
The relative interlude of
tranquility during thi cason is
a great ource of optimi m. For
it sugge that peace i attaint
able.
We must keep triving and
truggling to bring it to fruition.
If e listen. learn and live out
the multiple meaning of the
po itive m ages of this season
then indeed peace on earth
good will towards humanity is
possible.
