The Corporation For Artis- .
tic Development (CAD) held
its 10th Anniversery Hand­
icapped Celebration at Wayne
State University's, McGr�gor
Conference Center. The Com­
munity Arts· Auditorium w
the setting for the Handicapped
Talent Contest.
In opening statements,
Regina Mack, founder and Ex­
ecutive Director of CAD, stated
that CAD programs bring to
light the efforts, talents, ac­
complishments and histories of
our handicapped.
Dr. David Milburn, national
chairman of CAD, was
presented with community ser­
vice leadership award in help­
ing to establish CAD.
In his remarks, Dr. David
. Milburn, raised community
concerns of the health conse­
quences involving the parallel
rise of drug addiction and drug
related birth defects.
"Our community must
protect our next eneration
from drug induced handicapps
that will jeopardize their cogni­
tive development, future
productivity and life expectao­
cy: he said.

CAD National Board mem­
ber Gwendolyn Moore, from
Washington D.C., announced
that the 1990 Natiow Hand­
icapped Talent Contest will
take place at the Kennedy
Center for Performing Arts in
Washington D.C.
South Bend-The University
of otre Dame has received a
grant of $1 million from the
Coca Cola Company to estab­
lish.a minority faculty develop­
ment program. The grant will
fund University efforts to in-
1 aease minority represe tation
.. [oe i faculty, to establish facul­
ty exchange agreements ·with
tr ditioaally Black colleges and
uaiversities, to facilitate
I graduate education for
minorities and to provide re­
search opportunities for
minority undergraduates.
The Notre Dame program
wilt include exchanges of visit­
ing professors each semester
between the University and a
traditionally Black institution
and will provide, on the basis of
a national competition, two fel­
lowships annually to bring
minority graduate students to
the University for their disserta­
tion years and two fellowships
annually for first-year minority
graduate students.
The program also will
provide research scholarships
each summer to two minority
undergraduate tudents. at .

grant, $500,000 will be used to
