A: Preparation i the key to paint-.
ing. Here i list to guide you:
• Section off' your work and
totally clear the first room.
• Remove all brackets. picture
hangers. door stop • curtain rods,
electrical co er plate and everything
else that you don't want painted.
• Use I Vz-inch masking tape and
plastic or new paper to cover II re­
maining item - door handle and
hinge'. window frame , baseboard
and electrical fixture' • including
witche . and receptacle face'.
• Cover all ftoor' covering with
dropcloth .
• Du the walls and ceilings and
wipe down �I other iurface with a
de-glo ser or equ I.
• Fill mall hole with the ppm­
pri drywall or wood compound. let
dry an4 use fine sandpaper to lightly
sand the uri ce until even.
• Any I rge stre . crack in plaster
walls 'hould be grooved or scraped
out first. Then clean the crack and
apply piece of fibergla s me h tape
(Pro-me 'h) over it. packle with dry­
wall compound. nd and pint.
• If section of pia er walls have
deteriorated. scrape away all loose
pi er and spackle with a plaster-like
quick- tting compound (Durabond
or equal). then skim the section with
a dryw II compound that can be
sanded.
Now that the hard part is over. ask
for suuestions at the paint store for
the ppropriatc paint for the surface
you will be painting. After you have
applied the needed coats to get the
coverage you want. cleanup will be
easier than you expect.

screwed tightly for a pennanent fix.
