1805. The early settlers were
English and so them Blacks,
Woodwardville later became
known as White ood, and
Whitewood was later incor­
porated as the City of Highland
Park, Michigan ODApril4, 1918.
1860 - The Marks family
was Highland Park's first known
Black family. The family settled
in a hOD)e on Woodward be­
tween Church and Candler
shortly after the Civil War.
1902 - Armster and Joseph
Harvard arrived d began to
buy HP property. These two
brothers later fonDed the first
Black business in Highland
Park. The firm called Har­
vard Brothers and they per­
formed cement work i a cellar.
