Treasurer Robert Bowman.
Bowman said corporations
could becom a "powerful ele­
ment" of the ichigan Educa­
tion Trust (MET) by ponsoring
tudent " ensuring college tui­
tion for groups of children
through the trust.

"Go to them and y, 'adopt
these three fir t-grade classes,'
Bowman explained. "Once you
do that you start to really change
the dynamic of what children are
doing in school."
Bowman said he has dis­
cu d the "adopt-a-class" idea
with dozens of corporations, and
interest in such a MET spinoff is
trong. And that interest, he said
is more than what he called "self­
ish" goodwill motivated by hopes
for immediate publicity,

There are 850 people com­
peting in 18 district conventions
for 150 delegate and 46 alter­
nate seats t the national con-
vention in Atlanta in July.
On Saturday, 90 delegate
and 30 alternates will be chosen.
Then on May 14, the State
Democratic Committee will
pick 48 delegates and 16 alter­
nates.
