Carmen Carpenter, A Jill Of All Trades /
Counselor
of the Year

Carmen Olga Carpenter has
been selected to recieve the an­
nual MSCA (Michigan School
Counselors Association) Award
in gratitude for her outstanding
achievements as an Elementary
School Guidance Counselor for
the Detroit Public School Sys­
tem.
he awards ceremony was held
at the Amway Grand Plaza
Hotel in Grand Rapids on Oc­
tober 26, at noon.
Carpenter has been with the
Detroit Board of Education for
the past 27 years, over 17 years
as a vocal instructor and the last
10 spent at her present title.
Her educational background
consists of a Bachelor of Science
degree in Education from
Wayne State University in 1960,
as well as a Masters of Educa­
tion in Guidance and Counsel­
ingin 1975.
Carpenter is currently work­
ing as a between-schools-coun­
selor at Stellwagen and Ives
Elementaries.
She is also a member of these
professional organizations:
Detroit Federation Of
Teachers, The Guidance As­
sociation Of Metropolitan
Detroit (where she edits a

MUSKEGON - The 28th
Annual Ebony Fashion Fair will
appear at the Frauenthal Center
in Muskegon, on Nov. 11 at 8:00
p.m. This famed traveling
fashion show is produced by
Ebony Magazine and is spon-
ored by the Urban League of
Greater Muskegon.
Mrs. Eunice W. Johnson,
Producer and Director of the
show, personally selects
f hions from the exclusive col­
lections of famed designers such
Bill Bl Christian Dior, Yves
St. Laurent, Chloe, Lancetti,
Andre Lang, Valentino, Tito
Rossi and Missoni.
More than 200 exquisite gar­
ments complete with the latest
accessories, 10 female and 2
male models, commentator,
music director, stage business,
wardrobe managers, and staff
travel from coast to coast on a
special chartered Greyhound
bus to present the show.
John Lester, General Chair­
man of the Benefit performance
indicates ticket sales are going
exceptionally well, and expects
an even larger attendance than
the previous presentation.
Tickets are $17.00, which in­
cludes one year SUbscription to
Ebony Magazine, or six months
subscriptitn to Jet, and may be
purchased at Steketee's Depart­
ment Store in the Muskegon
Mall, or Patterson's Drug Store

Founder and President of an or­
ganization called Detroit
Elementary School Counselors
Association.
Church, and is a member and or­
ganist at the Springhill Baptist
Church each first and second
Sunday.
She has also played dinner
music with the likes of the
famous jazz artist, Ron Jackson.
Gospel and pop music are her
specialities, and she is working
on the jazz area.
Carmen considers herself, A
dabbler in many areas, as, she
writes poetry, sings and doe an
exellent 'Tina Turner' imper­
sonation for small gatherings
with friends.
Her comm unity thinks a lot of
her too, as she has recieved
awards from the Detroit City
Council, The Mayor, The
Wayne County Executive, and
the Governor.
