ovemer 1-7, 1987 Citizen African American Sports Hall of Fame to lnducet five DETROIT - The African American Sports Hall of Fame Second Annual Induction Ceremony wil be held on Sat ov. 7, at Cobo Hall in the Riverview Ballrom. To be inducted are: Sugar Ray Robinson, boxing; Thelma Cowans, golf; Dr. John Kline, bas etball; Leroy Dues, tr ackl coach, (posthumously); and orman 'Turkey" Steams, baseball (posthumously). Dave Bing, former Detroit Pistons star and chief executive officer of Bing Steel will be the guest speaker. Emanuel Steward of Kronk Boxing is honorary chair. This will be the Second In­ duction ceremony. AASHFG is designed to preserve the history of the Black athlete. It is -the first group in Detroit to collect and exhibit _ materials that delineate the con­ tributions of Blacks To Deba e or no HIGHLANDPARK-- Word has it that Mayoral Candidate, artha Scott has refused to debate Highland Park's current Mayor, Robert Blackwell. When asked in a phone inter­ view. Oct. 28 why she refused to debate, Scott, who is City Coun­ cil President, replied, "I was not asked to debate, and even if 1 had been asked I wouldn't debate him. I don't think it is necessary, as I have my record to stand on, four years of faithful o De ate service. Mayor Blackwell has a dif­ ferent version. When asked whether or not he and Scott had been invited to debate, the mayor said a joint appearance by the two had been scheduled, but that the council president didn't show .. Blackwell said, "Yes, I asked her to debate last night. Coach Pursiful has always been able to field a good solid team and his win-lose record is unmatched in the school's his­ tory.
