Declines in the number of
Black faculty, budget cuts 1D
financial aid programs, a
deteriorating public schools
system, and resurgence of
raw racism have made Blacks
an endangered species on
American college campuses,
Dr. Reginald Wilson said in a
speech Sept. 22 at Wayne
State University.
Wilson, who is Director of
Minority Concerns for the
American Council of Educa­
tion (ACE) also announced
three major initiatives for im­
proving the status of Blacks in
higher education.
"The picture is not en­
couraging," Wilson said.
Though the number of
Blacks who are graduating
from high schools has in­
creased over the past 10 years,
the" number of Blacks who at­
tend college has declined
during that same time period,
WIlson said.

have a larger numb r of 18-24
year-olds graduatin m
greater numbers yet few are
gong to college."
