The conference wa comple­ mented by 10 day study tour which included visits to all of the major archaeological sight in Egypt and the Cairo ational Mu urn, a well veral other rnu urns. Briefing lectures put the various monuments into hi orical and cultural perspec­ tive. A highlight were visit to veral ubian village where contibution to the school and community projects ere made by ASC C member . pecial program as pre­ nted by the Vill e of Daboud. During the tour two couples ere married in tr ditional African ceremonies conducted in the great arnak temple com­ ple in the town of Luxor, Egypt. A volunteer staff of 40 ASCAC member . ed the SC C officer in coordinating and offering services during the project. Among the rvices were youth and children pro­ gram. The A ciation for the Study of CIa 'cal African ivili­ zation was founded in 1984 at the "First Annual Ancient Egyptian Studies Conference", convened in Los Anglees by Dr. Maulana Karenga, repre- nting the Institute of Pan African Studies which hosted the conference; and Dr. Jacob H. Carruthers, representing the Kernetic In itute of Chic go. e 1984 conference was attended by 500 Afric Ameri­ cans, including the le ding holars in the area of African antiquity. In 1986, the third annual conference in- Harlem was attended by more than 1000 participant. In le than four years SCAC membership ha grown to over 1000. The overall goal of ASCAC is the restoration of African civilization through scholarly re arch, m ive education, cul­ tural creativity, and spiritual development. The membership is encouraged to particip te in the realization of the objectives through local study and re- arch groups. The Association's national office is located at orthea ern lllinoi University's Center for Inner City Studie 7()() Ea Oakwood Blvd., Chic 0, Illi­ nois. The ten hundred conferee, which included a few resident from Europe, the We t Indies and other parts of Africa, went to Egypt to celebrate their heritage; they returned with an unforgettable experience. They had participated in one ' of the great hi torical event of the 20th century. They had answered an invitation ex­ tended 4000 years 0 by the great Pharaoh Seso ris who invited an Egyptian citizen to return home after many years of [ourn in a foreign coun­ try.
