The City of Three Rivers
has hired its second Blae
policewoman.
She is C eryI Parker.
Cheryl lives in Three Rivers.
Her parents are � of
Three Rivers and Edwin
I of Kalamazoo.
Par er is 1986 graduate
of the Three Rivers High
School, and is the youngest
member of the departmen .
She was an auxiliary officer
with the department for one
year.
An oral interview was con­
ducted with seven persons and
she was the top choice of the
even.
She is currently in training
on the fir shift, dispatching
duties, and will fill the vacancy
on the third shift.
She enjoys reading. and lis­
tening to music and will be an
t to the department 'as
well as the community.

Mitchell selected
for Fir t Lady Award
rI M1tcheU of Three
Rivers, is one of the St.
Joseph County women and
only Black selected to par­
ticipate in the Michigan 150,
First Lady Award Program.
Mitchell will join 148 other
women from aero the state
in Lansing on ov. 9, at a
ceremony hosted by Paula
Blanchard.
Mitchell is a former mem­
ber of the Three Rivers City
Commission, and was the first
Black woman member.
She was ctive in starting
the county's GED program
and is involved in the county's
emergency care networ .
The Michigan 150 First
Lady Award is a tribute to
women ho have performed a
ignificant service for their
community, tate or nation,
but has gone unnoticed.

gis State of Michigan 1072nd
Retention and Recruiting
maintenance. The meeting was
in Lansing on Aug. 18. -
The meeting was held to
see ways to maintain the per­
sonnel in the ational Guard.
Family Reunion held I
The Br , John on,
Porter 1987 Family Reunion
was held August 14 - 16 at the
Michiana Campground,
Nottawa, Michigan.
On Friday, family members
received T-shirts.
On Saturday, Family mem­
bers enjoyed a picnic cookout,
fishing. boating, a haywagon
ride, swimming. moon ride,
pony rides, and a tour of the
Amish farms.
Dinner was served at 7 p.m,
and at 8 p.m. the family his­
tory was read.
A talent show followed
with music, dancing. and video
taping until 1 a.m.
M ry McLenore is the
oldest living relative in the
Brown family. George Brown
Jr. is the oldest male living.
J nette Taylor is the
oldest in the Johnson family,
and Hori John on the
oldest male.
III' m Etta Porter is the
oldest living member of the
Porter Family, and ellx
Porter is the oldest male living.
Altogether, 150 persons at­
tended, each receiving gift.
