By Robert . T ylor The single greatest impedi ment to Bl ck wealth build ing in America is the inability to r i bu ine t rt-up and expansion capital. In other word almo t regardl ss of the question, the n ed for more money is at le st part of the an er. Blac wealth builders potential and current) should alw ys keep that notion fore most in mind. The reason is that there is a present-day school of thought which argues th t the failure of Blacks to get a b igger p ieee of America's economic pie relates moreso to such factors as a lac of business experience; failure to organize in Black communi tie DE S FRA CIS o ce (313) 967-1397 low levels of motiv tion: etc. ow, don't mi understand me. The above factors do play a role but in virtually every instance they play condary role. The primary reason Blacks account for 12% of the. total U.S. population but less than 1% of total business revenue is becau we have been unable to raise the typ of money needed to start new busine s or to expand exist' g ones. The most critical question facing us is "from where does the money come to start the wealth building process?" In this week's column we have a few suggestions: o. I - BL CK BUSI- ESS FI C G CO FER- E CES should be sponsored in all major citie. The day long conference h ve two rnaior purpose: a To intr - due Blac bu iness per ns t traditional urce of financial investment. Thus among the ey pre nters in vited to these conference should be bank loan offi er . venture capitalist, toe bro - ers etc. and b) The con ferences should invite ordinary Black who may have a few hundred dollars to invest. The aim here is to give Blacks with potentially profitable bu iness ideas the opportunity to meet and discuss tho ideas with potential Black Investors. Blac Business Financing Conferences can be profit makers for the sponsors be cau becau a lot of small and potential Black busine people would pay a reasonable fee to have all in one place the type of information and potential investors that such a conference would offer. o 2 - BL C WE LTH BUILD G CLUBS need to be formed in die throughout the nation. The primary im of uch clubs is to rai money by spon ri various money m ing act Ivities and events. The simple face of the matter is that traditional urces of financing will not meet all our needs. e have written often about our Black wealth building club in Hartford, Connecticut which rai .. d the money in just four months to buy major restaurant in a predomi nantly hite section of to n. e have also m ntion the Blac wealth builder in Bos ton who true a party which attracted 2 000 p ople paying 15 each. In other word s she raised 30 000 in one night. Blac wealth building clubs are money raising vehicles and they should be formed immediately.
