Elder Felton was called to
the ministry at age five and as
a young man served on an
evangelis . c team with his
father Elder Damon Felton.
He was active in high school
student organizations in West
emphis, Arkansas and
Kalamazoo. Ie received a BA
degree in Political Science
and History from Western
. chigan University .
Active in a variety of com­
munity affairs, he has served
as secretary of the orthside
Ministerial Alliance,
Kalamazoo; President, Cas­
sopolis Ministerial association
and member of the NAACP
Niles Branch. In 1980 he was
a candidate for the 46th Dis­
trict State Representative.
Recently he was nominated
for Outstanding Young Men
of America.

Headquarters will be the
Westin Hotel with daily
rkshops and nightly musi­
cals at Cobo Arena.
The organization was
founded in Detroit in 1968 by
Rev. James Cleveland, noted
gospel singer and Crown
Prince of Gospel He en­
visioned the need for gospel
singers to become obligated to
excel in all phases of Gospel
Music and brought together
gospel singers from across the
country who have convened in
various cities for the past 20
years.
The Gospel usic
Workshop of America, Inc..
has become the world's
largest gospel singing conven­
tion of its kind
aThe object of this organiza­
tion is to perpetuate, promote
and advance the Christian
ideal through the medium of
music.
Over 50 workshop classes
are scheduled for each day of
the convention and will be
held at Cobo Hall
A 3,000- Voice Choir
consisting of various choirs,
choruses and 'soloists will be
recording on Friday evening
August 14, at Coho.
