gola.
In related actions, a state
department source said out
cries from southern" African
leaders had caused the U.S.
and Zaire to reconsider using
the Kamina Air Base for
military logistical purposes.
The U.S. last month com
pleted joint military exercises
with Zaire and the U.S. main
tains a presence in that
country.
The State Department had
earlier said that the Kamjna
Base could be utiljzed to
"evacuate" American citizens
from Angola.
It is widely speculated that
Kamina, near the northern
Cabinda oil province in An
gola, is presently being used
as a launching ground for
UNITA attacks.
