Family members of avy Petty
Officer arshall Hayes had
their prayers answered when
word came Tuesday, May 19,
that Haye had survived the
Iraqi attac on the USS Starke
where the 10-year avy
veteran was a ere member.
Hayes, a 1976 graduate of
Benton Harbor, was reported
alive and well aboard the USS
LaSalle, his wife told
reporters Wednesday.
In my heart of hearts, deep
down inside, I knew he as
alive. I wouldn't allo myself
to think anything else," said
Mrs. Hayes. "The Lord as­
sured me he was alive and I
clinged to that"
Hayes, 28, and his wife
