HIGHLAND PARK-The
Highland Park City Council
approved an agreement April
14 which gives Chrysler Cor
poration the go-ahead to leav
the city and move to Auburn
Hills.
A standing room only
crowd of over 100 packed the
small council chambers Tues
day night in a last effort to
sway the Council toward their
comers.
T o-and-a-half hours after
the scheduled 7 o'cloc
meeting began, following ap
plause in support of spea er
dress at the beginning of the
hearing.
Chrysler's new propo al
replace one the City rejected
which offered it 5 million to
ease the blow to the tax base.
Under the new agreement,
Chrysler promises to invest 5
million in an economic
development corporation that
would try to attract jobs and
investors to Highland Par .
Chrysler would also pay the
City 9 million throughout a
nine year period.
Before the vote, Council
President Scott tried to con-

voted 3 to 2 in favor of
Chrysler.
Councilmen Dwight
Downes, Comer Heath, and
Fran Ross voted yes. Linsey
Porter and Council President
Martha Scott voted no.
Mayor Robert Blackwell
was in support of Chrysler's
proposal which promises
Highland Par $14 million to
compensate for the city's lost
tax revenue due to the move.
"It's important that we
begin this process immediate
ly," Blac well said in an ad-

voting on the proposal.
"This is our future here,"
she said, "why to we have to
rush. I hope that e would

In an intervie after the
meeting, Scott said she anted
a delay because her attorney
had not reviewed the Chrysler
contract.
She said the next step is to
