with him as a host-bodyguard for his

of Chicago and marched as a bodyguard
at two Black churches able to go in only

One of the Church concerts was the
evening of September 19, 1949, all of
u buzzing with the news of the first
Soviet atomic test most welcoming the
prospect of an atomic weapons stale­
mate as a better peace guarantee than a
US monopoly. So far, it still holds up

better.
Shortly after the 60th birthd y
celebrations the Supreme ourt ruled
that Robe n and the re t of us could
not be denied pas p rts and the whole
world reverberated ith greeting a
