Looking at the progre
Blacks have made over the
last 20 year, Weaver say
"I think there ha: been an
increa in economic status and
housing statu for tho ho
have had the benefit of edu
cation. There ha been a move
towards the middle cia ."
However, the situation for
Blacks who are "not in the
mainstream '' he say ha wor
sened, primarily due to the
shift in the economy away
from blue collar jobs and the
great cu tbac in cially
oriented program by the
government.
To young Blac today he
stre s th education i more
important than it ever was.
"Young people should be con
cerned with taying in school
and learnin as much a pos-
ible hile they're there. The
situation ha changed. _ on-
tra ed ith the situation a half
a century ago, there i much
le of a demand for untrained
people."
Weaver adds that too much
emphasis i pl ced on the
spectacular - hu e amount
of money and fame. He u s
ort as an example. "There
is very little room at the top
and the amount of time there
i limited." He re-emphasize
the need for education.
Today, he remains active on
