Tragedy inspires BH woman to
launch children's programs

rs, Annette Hockett was
born in e Orleans, Louisiana.
She has one brother and two
sisters.
Her mother i deceased and
her father resides in Benton Har
bor.
Annette ( ettie) a she is
affectionately called has been
living in Benton Harbor per
manently since 1960. She
began visiting Benton Harbor at
the e of 7 years old.
She is married to William
Hockett, mother of three, grand
mother of twelve. She has three
great-grandchildren and five
God-children.
Her elementary and high
school education was completed
in Louisiana.
Currently she is attending
Jordan College studying for an
As ciate of Arts degree in
Child-development. She will
graduate in May 19 7.
Mrs. Hockett believes every
one de rves an education and
age should never be a negative
factor.

Her goals are to get degree
and open an Evening Care
ervice for mothers that are
going out in the evening and
need child care.
Hockett says, women need
to have proper care for their
children when they go out in
the evenings whether it i to
work or play.
She says she wants to see
all children with lots of parental
love and care.

and the elderly are her favorite
people.
Her community work in

organization and currently she is
the director of Imagination
Theater for Preventive Educa
tion.

measurements, such as, self
awarenes , lf-alertne s, self
dependency, and self-e teem.

old for children to be a part of
the Imagination Theater.
The goals of the Theater
staff is to teach all children to
be aware of what they see and
hear. Teach them what can
happen to them and their
friends. ,
Mrs. Hockett said she realizes
many children are in great
need of proper training, and
no one is there to give it.
She said, the theme of the
Imagination Theater is, Do It."
Children will be taught to en
joy life. They will have outings
picnics role playing pl y games .
and will learn that winning and
losing isn't imp rtant. Just
have fun she aid.

program at LMC began in the
Fall of 1985 and provided
support services to 20 individ-
ual at that time. Person
interested should obtain and
complete application a on
