Black busi ness growth crucial to Black Freedom

Simply put, American Black
can never fully achieve freedom,
equality and prosperity in cap­
italist America if Black-owned
bu me are not developed
and upported on a much
greater ale than is currently
the case.
Presently, one-third of all
Black Americans are officially
ified as poor; the Black
unemployment rate is two and
one- half time larger than the
jobless rate for hite· Black
bu me es produce less than 1 %
of th nation' busine income
en though Black are 12% of
the u.S. population and we are
in the midst. of a conservative
political revolution hich pro­
mise little by y of govern­
ment help.
While traditional civil rights
approach. to th problems
hould and must continue,

colleague James Nathan has
written a series of columns on
busine opportunities avail­
able to Blacks including form­
ing a "wealth building" club to
getting into the video rental
busine to organizing a finan­
cial inve tment erninar.
As part of the current effort
to get Black to try their hands
at startin income producing
busine es, tho e 26 columns
have been combined and expan­
ded into a booklet hich can be

building club e are forming.
We hope to form such club
.all round the country and con­
nect Blac and Black financial
re ource in a network that will
