wanted to" read
said th t the teachers at We t
School want every child to work
at grade level so e can learn
the stuff that' on the tests.
The teacher explained that if the
slo er kid get put back in 10 er
boo every year, they'll never
have chance to catch up to
wh re they should be.
y teacher like to teach
reading, and she's happy that
we're all on grade level. I
like reading cl becau I get
to spend more time with my
teacher' she doesn't have a
whole lot of groups; so we
don't have to sit and work by
ourselves most of the time.
To me,"the best part is when we
get to read out loud. Some
times the principal comes in
just to hear us read. Every
body gets a turn. Even if we're
a little bit slow or if we mi a
word, the teacher helps u , and
nobody ever laugh. If 'we
have trouble reading, the teacher
calls us up for pecial help
after the Ie on. Then we go
back to our eats and do our
work just like everybody el e.
The teacher has lots of activities
and worksheets to help us catch
up. We h ve to take unit tests
nd level tests to make sure
we know the work, but I don't
mind becau the teacher goes
over the kills we missed when
we get the tests bac. Then
we can do better when we try
the test again. The principal
has us sign our names on a chart

in the hallway every time we
pass a unit test.
- The first time we got our
report cards, I got a '-C-" in
reading. Mama said she'd
rather have me get a 'CC-"
reading at grade level than a
'8" in a book below my level.
This made me feel good. The
teacher says that I can do even
better if I keep on trying.
She tells me I have a good brain.
· ., I want to be ornebody,
and I want to do somethin
important. I don't know wha
I want to do - maybe I'll be a
nur or a computer operator.
I can do almo anything-if I'm
a good reader. And I've already
started!
This is for all the "Evies"
and "Edwards" who walk
through the doors of West
School. We believe that you
can learn and that you will
succeed. We promis to do our
best to help you!
