Cardiac Care Center. Mercy Hospital
Dr. Benjamin Son one of the Southwestem
Michigan Health Care Associations cardiologists
talks about the Cardiac Core Center.
People often have heart disease without any
symptoms. Or they may suspect they have heart
prob ems and are afraid to find out for sure.
But the major key to the successful treatment of
heart disease is early detection. "
"The Cardiac Care Center' cardiac
ri evaluation program hel
people discover undetected heart
disease so we can treat it early."
Once we are aware of heart disease we can treat
it, modify the risks and increase the patient s
chances for a longer nonnallife.
The diagnosis and treatment of heart disease has
improved rapidly over the last 10 years. So most
heart patients can face the future optimistically.
We want to help patients cope with their illness .
and return to home and work as soon as
possible."
"Our cardiac rehabilitation program
coordinates diet, exercise and
education for patients recovering
&om heart attacks or heart urgery."
"QUite commonly, heart patients also smoke are
overweight or are under a great deal of stress.
So we send them to the smoking clinic, get their
blood pressure or diabetes under control help
them with diet and exercise programs, and work
on managing stress.
Our comprehensive care takes a patient through
all stages - early detection, diagnosis and
treatment - and offers education, social service
support and follow-up care.
"I am pro d of thi hosp tal'
commitment to the Cardiac Care
Center."
I can say without question that the Cardiac Care
Center has all the most up-to-date technology for
diagnosis and treatment of heart disease.
And we have a group of dedicated well-trained
heart specialists, including cardiologists, cardiac
surgeons and cardiovascular technologists.
There s a team effort - a feeling of working
together. I am always impressed by the warmth
and caring of the peop e here.
It's a good feeling to help our patients return to
active, normal, productive lives.
The Cardiac Core Center is one of the services of
the Southwestern Michigan Health Core
Association.
Other specialized centers at Mercy and Memorial

diagnosis, treatment and follow-up care. Its all
part of a comprehensive approach to better
