It was truly eyeopening to e how some teenagers their parents and feel about them. One (female teenager in the group stated "My mother doe n't pend any time with me. She works all day then she comes home and she talks all evening on the telephone. She watches TV in her room and I watch my TV in my room". As for as I can trace, So how Could I have failed to like The ebon image of my face? I call myself intelligent, With sense to choose my fate,' How long took me to understand The two sides of my hate? . I hated those who made me feel That I was yet a beast. Lhated me whose face was Black, A darker sin, at least. Yet through my long turmoil I've found a pridefulness; I wash my face and comb my hair Then, don my new awareness. And on each day, I take my pride To city streets and see, A million faces dressed like mine, And smiling, just like me. -Leon J.
