Do You eed Help Paying Your Rent?
The Sec ion 8 Existing Rental Assistance Program may
be the ans er.
This is a federal program to help people pay their rent. If
you re eligible to ta e part, some of your rent ill be paid
to your landlord e ery month by the Michigan State Hous­
ing Development Authority ( S,tiDA).
The part you pay yourself ill be based on your family
income and the number of people in your family. Ho -
e er, the total amount you pay for rent and utilities gener­
ally ill not exceed 30 percent of your income.
These are the qualifications: (1) You must be income
eligible; (2) the living unit you choose must meet the
ousin Quality Standards of the federal Department of
Housing and Urban Development (HUD); and (3) the rent
for the unit, including utilities, must be within the Fair
ar et Rent established by UD.
