mourner grieved his pas ing.
A man before-hi -tim , Dr.
Cook had vision of economi
independence for Bl ck people.
That love for his people was
rooted in his tudie at the
famed Tu kegee Institute and
nourished with a life time of
cholarly pursuit chronicling
the achievement of Bla k pe -
ple.
Dr. Cook' life w rk wa an
effort to bring that same level
of chi vement to the Benton
Harbor community,
In 1976 the Progressive con­
gregation purchased its present
building at 245 Pipestone, The
move from the church at Cry -
tal and Highland after 24 years
there, was m de to help in revi­
talizing one of Benton Harb r's
