Exce ive oil con umption is
a common complaint among car
owner. If you happen to be
one of millions of motorist
who are confronted with this
problem, keep in mind that
motor oil can be 10 t two ways:
(1) It can seep out the crank-
e or engine s a result of a
leak. (2) It can be con umed
in the combustion chamber.

mentions that the engin is con-
uming too much oil. Often the
trouble can be easily corrected .
One of the most common
causes of oil con umption is
external leak. The oil may
lead from oil line , the cran -
ca drain plug the oil pan
ga et, fuel pump ga ket timing
ca gas et, and camshaft b ar
ing seal. 0 source of leak
hould be neglected. It' been
estimated that a le of one
drop of oil every 20 feet is
equal to the 10 of one quart
of oil every 100 mile .
You are also likely to 10
oil if the front or rear main
bearing als re worn. Also
worn or dam ged main bear
ing or connecting rods bearings
throw of exce ive amounts of
oil. You will also lose oil if the
cam haft bearing or crankcase
journals re worn.

prevent the condensation of
ater and fuel vapor. Any
re triction in the breather or
vent pipe will ret rd circulation
of air, promote formation of
varni h or sludge and cau the
contamination of oil. If th -
breather or vent becomes clog
