John Judson, MD., EA.C.S.,
thoradc and cardiovascular surgeon,
Cardiac Care Center,
Mercy Hospital
,..
Dr. John Judson, one of the Southwestern
Michigan Health Care Associatio' rdiac
surgeons talks about the Cardiac Care Center.
"I came to this community because 1 wanted
to be in an area where I can know my patients .
When I practiced at a larger clinic I saw my
patients the day of surgery and never saw them
again. That's not my style.
"At the Card ac Care Center, we're
otally involved with our patten ."
"We emphasize a comprehensive approach to
heart care. We follow our patients - from
diagnosis, t treatment or surgery right on
through our cardiac rehabilitation program.
1 think patients do better here because their
own cardiologists and family physicians
participate in their care. "
"We are fortunate to have the team
e ve here."
- "The cardio ogists here have a tremendous
amount of experience. And the staff on the
cardiac floors and in intensive care are experts.
The team we have in surgery is just
exceptional. Our swgical results are as good as
or better than those of other centers.
Right JlO\AI, most of our patients are admitted
the day before surgery and go home in about a
week. That's largely because of the fine job
the nursing staff is doing. "
. "Our c8rdiac care program be e
the whole community."
Our heart surgery program also makes it
possible for us to offer treatments which can
reduce heart attack damage. These sophisticated
procedures - such as streptokinase infusion
and balloon angioplasty - are done only in
hospitals which have surgical back-up.
And the high-tech equipment used for cardiac
surgery gives us support capabilities for other
post -operative patients and accident victims.
You can find this level of expertise at larger
. centers. What I don t think you 11 find there is
this level of caring. "
The Cardiac Care Center is one of the services
of the Southwestern Michigan Health Care
Association.
Other spedalized centers at Mercy and
Memorial hospitals also offer co-ordinated
education, diagnosis treatment and follow-up
care. It's all part of a comprehensive approach
to better community health.
Dr. Judson is one of more than 1,400 people
who work at Memorial and Mercy hospitals to
provide sophisticated - and compassionate -
medical services. Right here close to home.
