For Charlene (Cro ell) Burr
it began in 1966 at the Muske
gon plant of Howmet i co
Corp. She later transferred to
the Whitehall plant.
Char worked in the fmishing
department and in veral other
depart men ts, but always ended
bac in fini . ng.
In ugu t of 1978, Char
was asked to go on supervision
a a foreman in the finishing
department, which he accepted.
That put her on the page of
local industrial history. She
wa the only Black female in
upervi ion.
Char said when she started
orking for Howmet it w
only supposely to be for one
year but like other employees
she found Howmet 'grow on
you'.
Char enjoys working with
the p ople at Howmet, and
reports he has made many
friends.
Char aid he appreciated
management for allowing her the
opportunity to perform. in this
capacity. ven though she'
in minority sh, a the com
pany rna e her feel like part
o the team.

also erves on the executive
board of the Black Women's
Political Caucus.
