A C /I to Undelstanding./u. .... It is 1984, and even though e re ppo to believe that we are living in the Land of Opportunity, one question rocked mu . u1 for long it too me to understand the meaning of the I ord: freedom. • Opportunity to hom, for what? y a penon h traveled down the road of life never fullfill.ing the go t for them I by their dream and hopes inspored by the exclu ive American Dream. ere the go t too high? too much asked of the spiritual rum? it too much to a that young Blac man inquired of ucce ,to request to li his white counterparts: standing n his 0 n or s as foundation of his moral orth? Or was this Black youth king too much to be m asured by hi Silian Criticiz r De Editor: . ten to what we recently exper ienced! This i ith regard to Con gre an ar Siljander's form-letter on Central America. Seventy re ponsible, ell-informed citizen (from 16 different cltie in the 4th Di trict), igned a letter expre ing our d ep concern over Rep. Siljander' Central rnerican policy. After a four- ee it, e received our Congressman' n er. Hi re pon to u a copy of identical form- leter with' hich originally took Virginia Tilly 0.12 5 chievement in tead of his st tistical nu meral accounting on a government chart. For myself, I can half way understand the orking of n inhuman system de- igned to work of for, and by the people. The other half I don't under tand is ho can a people of a nation (who not more than the tum of centennial length of time) believe that Blacks were merely no more than 'property" keep on living in conditions that would make ten thousand maggots . c . Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking dreams. A a matter of f ct, it's those dreams that keep many alive. , But I can't, not won't, condone the - fact that there are f too many Blac plus people of all other races who simply can't live the life society has cho n for them. And I mean Cho n - I did not - stutter!! To say "I can be whatever I want to be," i turning more into a ''wishin will make it so" t te of mind. Agree, there are many who would rather sit bac and wait for the Social Service dinner to come around. But for each one of tho there are ten tim his number who wish to tand on their own two feet and make and mold their own futures without restraint nor 10 of what they really earned yet never acquired becau ociety doesn't feel it is owed to them. any Blacks in the south lack the kno ledge to acquire the true freedom so long in comin . Here in the northern state we have that knowledge. We just lac the common n to make it work. What does it t e to understand that our true leader would not have hi people in ch o?
