Community Club revived an old tradit­
ion of the orth u egon community
ith th Community Fun Day held
July 21.
Each year in the 1950's this day as
an annual e nt but was dropped. The
Reethspuffer .I.A. promoted the day
on year and ain it w dropped
until this year ' e nt. The club intends
to eep thi an on going e ent from now
on.
The purpo of th club i to exchange
lfe kill such as quilting, crocheting,
cooking, food pre rvation and garden­
ing.
Each year the club raffel a group
made product at th annual dinner of

All member are handling raffel

Urban 'Gardening
in Muskegon
MUSKEGO - Urban Gardening is
becoming popular. People are purchas­
ing vacant lots djacent to their home
or in the block they live in.
The garden are miniture truck
farm they gro quite a variety of
egtables in large quanities.
The reason? It's more than a hobby.
It is a resurgence of that almost lost
condition called SELF SUFFIE CY.
In ddition to the nutrional value of
those fresh vegtables, Urban F arming is
one tool that can be u d to comb t
profiteering by food brokers and cor­
poration-owned gtable plantations.
Hester Lee Smith a Jr. 4-H leader in
arts and crafts. Smith ju t returned
from a trip to Lansing to become aquaint­
ed with the proce of State Govern­
ment and then accompanied 34 4-H
member to Washington D.C. to stud
the federal governm nt. .
Gladys Smith of 487 Abbey i th
volunteer co-ordinator for the arquett
eighborhood Urban Farmin project.
The 17 farnilie participating in this
garden project supplement their bud et
by eating the fresh vegtables and freezing
or canning the surplus.
The coordinator . responsible for
allocating sp ce on the ba of 3 lots per
family and 1 or 2 lots to an individual
and supervised the di tribution of the
ed and plant provided by the 4-H
office. The supervisor a1 0 i r onsible
for ground preparation.
