AS SALAAM ALAIKUM (I wish you
th P ce th t only Allah can give an
that is a v ry d p, comforting and I st
ing peace. Th re is non like it any
wh re.)
In the Holy Quran (muslim Bible)
in chapter 3: 76 it r adSi "Nay, - Those
that k p th ir plighted faith and ct
right, - v rily Allah (God) 10 s those
who ct aright." Re d also 3:83.
Last k we discussed words nd
deeds re: declared faith Le. the mon
oth istic declaration of the muslim
- "Th fe Is no God but the On , True
and Uni rsal God" whom the Quran
calls, in its original languag (Arabic),
All h. Now, to say that is to speak words
but to liv it requires etten-deeds. Too
many of us who claim to be members of
the 3 gr at monotheistic teach rs, pro
ph ts, faith i.e. Jewish, Chri$1ian and
Muslim say that ther is only on God in
our lives but in actuality when it comes
to d s (living up to th t declaration)
fall ry short. Exampl: (Which
could be used unfortunat 't by simply
replacing Rabbi or Imam). et's look at
ho m ny churches have in this
community all claiming to be deciples
of Christ. The pastor claims to be a fol
Io and bel' v r in th way of Christ
also tho in his congregation. Now,
Christ was th kind of lead that was
found among the poor t aching them
how to impro their lives by making
God th c nter and foundation of their
liv • H taught them by word but he
was also their best xample. So it was
with Mo and Muhamm d Peace by
upon all of them. Today 4000 yrs.after
Mose 2000 yrs. after J sus nd1400
yrs. aft r Muhammad the spiritual I d rs
for th most part r atmost exclusively
concern with who can get the most
alth, I r church (physical structue)
nd who's driving th finest automobile.
The poor mas s (layperson) can't tell
who's th pimp nd who's the "pastor".
The bov m ntioned proph ts wer
liberator. They sought to restor hu
manity back to a life of faithfulness to
th 0 , Universal Cr tor th r by giving
th m dignity in this lif and th promise
of n a bett r lif In the h eafter .
Tho men didn't r ally discriminate
becau th y kn th t nyon can b. in
th pit of lif ev n if h was a "King"
or "Qu " . Th taught th ir congre
gat on that it is faithfulness to God th, t
is t mis key to lif. and with th t
key you can ha hope In what r
enclU,,.r of good you strl for. They
d dn't direct th r congregation to the
p. in the sky while they got everything
they could mass for themselves. The
prophets of God were examples, human
being examples so that we could not
have the excuse that they were super
humans and that we can't live like them.
There re a very few men and women
who live th unselfish life today but the
maj ity are like the people 4000 and
1400 yrs. ago Greedy and Selfish. But
the prophets were outstanding because
they h d strong faith. They told their
folio rs to have faith in God and
follow their example and that they
(followers) would have enternal life.
the Quran says to man i "but you prefer
this life (material possesions) ov r the
hereafter". Quran also says when man is
asked to go forth, unselfishly willingly
lik the prophets, amn clinges to the
earth.
In At-Islam we attribute all success
to Allah and Quran tells us that "only
good comes from Allah" and the bad
are the results of our own acts either
commission or omission. We know
that one cannot truly b successful y t
have no morals. To quote'the lead r of
The American Muslim Mission Iman,
Warith Deen Muhamm d "Moral respon
sibility ushers people into every other
responsibility. It takes moral strength
to be concerned about helping some
body other than your.:self. Use the
pure teachings of God to purify our
motives, our attitudes. Clem up! Don't
stop at just cleaning but ducate." The
people of Benton Harbor for the most
part are poor, uneducated and unfor
tunateJy too ma y maybe not most but
far too many re not clean. Don't take
my word for it look at our neighbor
hoods - as a friend said to me "Poor
Does Not m an Dirty and Does Not have
to mean Ignorant." Pastors let's chang
are focu from personal material wealth
to directing our congregations to strong
faith in the One, Universal God and to
material success for our congregation.
Th common p rson who is w/out
material djgnity e.g. Quran directs the
muslim - (On who submits himself
to th will of God) to k the h re
after but don't neglect your share of this
material world. It t 115 us 0 rand 0 r
"but the hereafter is far bett r than this
first life."
