dent. The BPUS as related to the for­
mer Presbyterian Church, U.S. (PeUS).
Durnell said "The coming together of

mond, and wife of its pa tor, the Rev.

The n w organization adopted resolu­
tion regarding South Afric , the U.S.
Commis 'on on Civil Right, and voter
education, regi ration and representa­
tion; appointed Sund y, pril I, s a day
of support for the pre idential campaign
of the Rev. Je Jackson; recognized
Back Presbyterian leaders with a ards;
heard the Rev. Joyelino rnos, ew
Yor , director of the Council on Church
and Race, appl ud BPU "a p cesetter
for all the other racial ethnic constituen­
cie "; and adopted a 106,700 budget
for 1984.

itie , authorization of a tudy to deter­
mi� whether affirmative action programs
for, minority admis ion to college have
cau d a decline in ac demic standard ,
criticism of the U.S. Supreme Court
for it ruling in favor of the promotion
of racial-ethnic police officer in D troit,
and, the declaration that the former
nonpartisan commi ion had overstepped
its mandate in supporting busing as on
of the mean to effect hool des grega­
tion.

omen's Coordinating Committee of the
Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) has called
the "nee-con rvative t nee" -of the
U.S. Commis ion on Civil Ri hts "an
abhorence to tho who r marginalized
becaus of race or sex."
The 12-member committee, which is
organized as an advocacy group for
Asian Black, Hi panic, and ative"
American women, condemned "the rad­
ical shift of the ne Iy formed Com­
mission that now reflects the mind-set
of the pre nt admini tration rather than
the 'hand off' policy of former admini­
strations."
The committee noted that in 19�3,
the eight-member civil right commission
''was recon tituted by the Congre ,
under the pre ure of the White Hou ,
to include a majority of five members
ho reflect the policie of the Reagan
