While they are trying to get thi ttied we uggest that you detour around our town for your own safety. DID YOU OW that you are soon goi to have the opportunity to vote to increase your taxe so that the Sheriff D pt. can have more money to hire more people? .. 0 before me cynical per n tarts to a , 'Who is he going to hire?" w have to remember that he just got elected in 1980 and he already has 0 E Black on the payroll out- of JUST 29 employees. The millage that he wants pa d will bring in enough money to hire 16 more People. Maybe what we 'ought to do is try to elect him to 4 or 5 more terms and vote to tax ourselves .enough to hire 29 more employees -_that w y h might hire o Emore. If we could just get the proportion of Black arrested by the Sheriff Dept. down to the proportion hired by them we would be doing fine. But then let's not complain because maybe this is the Dept's way of integra ting the jail over in Paw Paw-you know their Equal Opportunity Program. Any body who pa e by will look in the win dow nd see a equal number of Blacks and white inside. They won't realize that the Blacks are behind the BARS nd the white are behind the DESKS. I bet the thought of all this equality ha made you feel better already. . r WE EEP READ G and hearing about the Presidents of the variou tional Baptist Conventions urging their follower to involve themselves in Voter Registration Drives, to give financial sup port to political candidates of their choice and to upport Rev. J e Jackson in his quest for the presidency. We al 0 keep hearing a lot of silence from our local ministers. This could be due to one of veral different things: (I maybe they ain't Baptist; (2) maybe they ain't Black or poor or unemployed; OELIVERY ERVICE COMfUTI 0Pf • DAYS 1.30 AM TO , .... HAD YOU HEARD any of tho rumors about all of those cheese cheaters and butter burglars in Covert? Well it seems that during the Janua ry food distribution a lot of folk in the county were found to be receiving cheese and butter under fal preten s. othing strange about folk lying, thieving, stealing nd cheating and there is nothing range about hungry folks trying to get some extra food, if they get the opportunity . And it sho ain't strange that all of the ille gal activities were perpetrated in and around Covert while the rest of the coun ty is populated by hone t, loving" com passionate, God-fearing, Christ-like neigh borly church-going citizen who wouldn't think of doing nothing wrong.
