Out in Van
Ju t fe eeks go they found out
that a couple of ientists from the
University of ashington h d ju dis
covered that trees communic te with
each other. We wondered where have
tho two dudes been. Tree have al ys
communic ted - they rub branches,
wave' leave at ea h other and when
it' necessary they tal to each other.
Then tal to the bird nd squirrels
who nest in them. They will talk to
you if you ju t stop talking long enou h
to listen. If you feel kike taying up I te
enough t nite you ill find out th t
they do more than ju t tal . Where do
you think little baby trees come from?
.They call it pollination and tuff li e
that but we know what it really is and
you do too.
I K 0 THAT you remember when
you were reading ancient Greek y
thology and found out about Philemon
and Baucis. You remember they were
so hospitable to Zeus (the chief God
on one of his visits to earth that he
rew rded them in their old age by turning
them into tree rather than let them die.
ow you kno that for people to be
con . dered truly hospitable in tho
day they had to have invited Zeus in
for a littl wine.
When people start drinking they do a
lot of talking. So - if these were the
ind of people that Philemon and Baucis
were then obviously the chief God
wou dn t tum them into something
that couldn't do ny of the thing that
they enjoyed doing.
Addin thi to the thing that the
bird nd squirrel said e already n
th t tree could communicate, really
we thought that everyb dy el kne
it too. Didn't you?
DID YO see th t pi ture in the
S uth H ven p per last ee on the
Bla k omen p stm ter of Co ert?
that you didn't see her bee u
it ju t bla p t with t 0 hite
pots for eyes. It really mazin ho
some picture can be lear and orne
ju t ther opp site. You ould thin that
by no ,in this d y and a e that they
ould be bl to find photogr pher
who kno s ho to t e BI fo s
picture, hat ith II the ne self fo us
ing automatic adjustin amera on the
mar et - if a person didn t no better
he would thin that it as delib r te ...
Saw a bu oad of id from Decatur
over at the camp ground the other day
they id that Van Cap arr nged the
week Ion trip for them. e don't
kno here the money me from but
the kid were sure enjoying the fun that
it bought. . . Calvin Peete on the
62000.00 first prize in the recent
illiamsburg Golf tournament . . .
Remember the ugu t 27th rch n
ashington if you c n't go - help
send someone.
Fir t thing we want to do is s you
some que tions, O.K.? Did you mi s
me? Aw come on - if you missed me
how come we didn't find whole box of
letter at the office complaining becau
we ere rrii ing from the paper?
Ho come there was no "mis On
person" report on me at the police
station? Ho come nobody pinned a
note on my door ying "Please com
b c " or 'Gh ... me one more chan en
or 'I m going to do better' or somethin
like that? How come mebody el
as sitting in my chair when I got bac ?
- M ybe e better from the other
side.
ere you gl d that I as gone? ere
you able to breathe and smile and enjoy
life be u you didn't have to be worried
about the variegacie of life in Van
Buren County for a while? s it more
fun reading bout the prophet of Allegan
County or chopping the eed out of
your garden than it i wondering who
did what to who, and why and where
a thi paper and ho did it find out?
We came back with some good ne s
and some b d new - The good ne s is
that thing didn't get any orse. The
bad n ws i that they didn't get any
better either.
You kno Reagan is still the pre '-
dent - the democrats still have a ma
jority in the congre and the majority
in the congre is still voting with Reagan.
Our congressman doesn't em to be
concerned bout the high unemploy
ment in the district he is too busy
representing the interest of the Israeli
government.
For me rea n we didn't get out
cheese and butter distribution in July.
The Prez keeps telling u that the
rece ion' is"·' over and that things have
changed.
I keep remembering that ACTIO S
peak louder than words and that the
more things change the more they stay
the same.
LET'S TALK ABOUT omething
cheerful, about somebody 0 ought
to be happy - The Good Prophet over
in Allegan County.
For year he ha been bragging about
how good and right the Klu Klux and
other white folks are and how he agrees
with their thinking, well the days he
ould be on happy man.
Every d y I see hi picture in the ne s
paper or on TV over t the County jail
or Courthouse with his friends.
Everybody there, the judge the
police, sheriff, lawyers, pro cutors,
health department court reporters ne
& TV reporters and all of the pectators
are white but him to thro a man into
a crowd of the people that he love
and re peet i like thro ing a rabbit into
the briar patch.
The folks in Allegan are happy be-
u they have another Blac per n
to ridicule and put in jail. The prophet
is happy becau he i surrounded by hi
friends and he got hi picture in the
paper and we ought to be happy becau
we thin that they de erve each other.
OUR RESE RCH D PART E T
didn't take a vacation. Some dedi ted
people have to stay on the job so that
you can ay informed, be aware, be ble
to anticipate the future.
