Car seats fo children. They seem like an inconvenience.
A 10 of work Especially if you're just running out to the
grocery ore. Or down the street to visit a friend.
But when used properly, car safety seats can mean
the difference between life and death for your child.
That is a very real fact Last year, according to Federal
statistics more than 600 children under age five were
killed in car accidents. And some 570 of them would be
alive today if they had been restrained in a car safety
seat
. igan law now requires all children four years old
and younger to be restrained in an approved restraint
device ' when riding in a car. That's because used
correctly car seats can reduce the chance of your child 5
death in an accident by 90 percent - and reduce the
chance of injury by 80 percen
We want your child to be protected in the event of a car
accident So we have car safety seats available for you to
rent - for less than five cents a day - from Mercy and
Memorial Hospitals.
Infant seats for children from birth to nine months old
are leased for just 1.00 a month. T oddJet seats for
children from nine months to four years old, are leased
for 1.50 a month. Your 10 deposit \ViII be refunded
when the seat is returned.
We'll be happy to demonstrate proper use of a car
safety seat for you and provide safety tips for traveling
with young children. We'll also give you some ideas
for making every trip with youngsters easier and
more pleesan
For more information you re invited to call the volun
teer department at either hospital (Mercy, 927-5239;
Memorial 9&3-82n) between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Mondays through Fridays.
And remember when you're in a car your lap is not the
best place for your child More than 75 percent of auto
mobile accidents occur within 25 miles of home. Take a
few moments to use a car safety sea even for
short trips.
Isn t your child 5 life worth it?
