ARVI Williams left his house
early last Monday to find a job. Marvin
ore his lucky earring, tennis shoes, his
best cap and favorite jeans. He thought
he as really dressed well.
He ent to every store in the neighbor­
hood to find a job. All of the store
managers said "sorry, we don't need
any help. ' By the end of the day Marvin
as very sad. He had been so sure he
. would find a job! On his ay home, he
saw a friend.
arvin said, 'Hey, what's happening,
Bill?' "Nothing man. I just got off of
ork that s ali," replied his friend.
Marvin started to tell Bill about his day.

went on. 'Everybody says they don't r
need any help. They look at me and
shake their heads. Bill, I know I can
work hard and I'll be a good worker."

Marvin thought for a while. Then he
said, "Man, you know I'm not in a gang."
Bill answered "Yes, I know-but they
don't. I'm not trying to put you
down ... that s just the way things are. Try _
it! I had to wear some slacks instead of
jeans because I needed a job badly. And
Marvin agreed to try and change the
way he looked-and acted. The next
day, he put on his Sunday clothes. Then
he went out again to find a job.

could do. Marvin saw quite a change
from Monday. No one said they ould
hire Marvin but many said they ould
call.
Next day Marvin decided to try one of
the places he went on onday as a
test. He went back to Jac 's Printing
