SELECTIVE SERVICE
If yo are male citizen or re ident alien, you are required by I
to register with the Selective Service during- the two wee period
beginning July 21, 1980.
Use the chart to find your day, and on that day visit ny U.S. Post
Office, fill out the simple registration form, and hand it to a Postal
Cler along with some form of identification.
REMEMBER: The purpose of registration is to build a pool of
names and addres es upon hich Selective Service could dra in
an emergency, and it would takean Act of Congress to rein titute
the draft. Congress has approved the President's request for fund
to support registration, but the President does not see , a d
Congress has not offered, authority to resume the draft.
Should a draft ever be needed, you will have full opportunity to
request a deferment or exemption as a conscientious objector or for
hardship. If you are a student in school, you would be permitted to
finish the emester in which enrolled or, if a senior, to finish the
senior year.
