hold himself to a high standard.”

career without the continuous help
and support of my parents (Evan

to them.”

Why do you enjoy playing ten-

“I enjoy playing tennis because of

that’s far from the case.”

The first half of the season is in
the books for the Brotherhood-
Eddie Jacobson B’nai B’rith
Bowling League, and there were
a couple of surprise champions in
the four divisions.
The Wrecking Balls won the
Pete Weber Division, and BBB
won the Mark Roth Division,
earning berths in the post-season
playoffs. The other division
champions were the Aristocrats
in the Earl Anthony Division and
the 600 Club in the W.R. Williams
Division.
Steve Hoberman, Bruce
Meyers, Barry Stein and Dan
Sternberg make up the Wrecking
Balls roster. BBB consists of Bob
Franklin, Mort Friedman, Jerry
Eisenberg and Stuart Vinsky.
While the Wrecking Balls’ and
BBB’s division championships
were surprises, it wasn’t surprising
who some of the league’s top
bowlers were during the first half.
The highest game rolled during
the first half, which concluded
Dec. 2 after 13 weeks of bowling,
was a 290 by Dave Shanbaum,
who also bowled the highest
series (794). Right behind
Shanbaum in those categories
were Rob Botham (287) and
Aaron Radner (773). Radner had
the highest average (230) during
the first half, and Shanbaum was
second at 228.

The league bowls on Monday
nights at its longtime home,
Country Lanes in Farmington Hills.
There will be no bowling Dec.
23 or 30, with league action
resuming Jan. 6.
In non-league news, Friedman
took first place in the 85-and-
older age division at the 93rd
annual Old Timers Bowling
Tournament on Nov. 30 at
Thunderbowl Lanes in Allen Park.
He rolled 224-189-207 — 620.
The tournament is presented by
the Greater Detroit Old Timers
Bowling Association.

The Michigan Jewish Sports
Foundation made a $10,000
donation Dec. 9 to the Michigan
Chapter of the Friends of the
IDF. The money was raised at
the foundation’s Michigan Jewish
Sports Hall of Fame induction
banquet in October.
“We support the state of Israel’s
right to defend itself against
foreign governments,” said Don
Rudick, the foundation’s director.
The Friends of the IDF is the
only organization in the U.S. that is
authorized to collect donations to
support the Israel Defense Forces.
