harles Alan Soberman, 76,
of West Bloomfield, died
Dec. 8, 2024.
Charles “Carlos” Soberman,
dedicated husband, father, son and
brother, passed away peacefully in
his home surrounded by
his beloved wife, Linda,
and his children.
Born in Detroit Dec.
6, 1948, to Sally and
Nathan Soberman, he
was the second of four
children. He graduated
from Cass Tech High School (class
of 1966), the University of Michigan
(bachelor of economics, class of
1970), Harvard Law School (J.D.,
class of 1973) and Michigan State
University (M.B.A., class of 1981).
He began his career as a corpo-
rate lawyer in New York City before
returning to Detroit as the president
of the Soberman family business,
Mercury Paint Company. Under his
leadership, Mercury Paint grew from
a single paint store in Detroit to 19
stores throughout Michigan before
selling the company to Sherwin-
Williams. During this time, he also
served as president of the National
Paint Association Color Guild and
as a member of Young Presidents
Organization.
In the early 2000s, Charles and
Linda visited San Miguel de Allende
in Mexico for the first time and
started a love affair that lasted for
20+ years in their beautifully adopt-
ed hometown.
Judaism was always important
to them raising their family in
Michigan and they helped grow the
Jewish community in San Miguel
through their leadership, engage-
ment and philanthropy. His vision,
generosity and warmth touched the
lives of so many as a beloved found-
er, board member and friend of the
Jewish organization JC3/CHESMA.
Charles and Linda were instrumental
in bringing education and technol-

ogy to the surrounding rural com-
munities of San Miguel as they built
a standalone commuter center with
the support of their friends from
Michigan and San Miguel.
Charles was a passionate pho-
tographer who traveled all over the
world with his wife. They enjoyed
visiting museums, seeing plays,
shopping at antique stores and meet-
ing new people in every small town
they visited.
His entire family feels blessed to
have had this exceptional man in
their lives and he will be missed
beyond words. May his memory be
a blessing. His legacy continues to
inspire those who had the privilege
of knowing him and countless other
lives he has touched around the
world.
Mr. Soberman is survived by his
wife of 44 years, Linda Soberman;
daughters, Lisa Glazer and Tracey
Jackier; son and daughter-in-law,
David and Jennifer Soberman;
grandchildren, Lilah and Hannah
Glazer, Kaiya Jackier, Asher Gilden,
and Jonah and Drew Soberman;
sisters and brothers-in-law, Marcia
and Roger Fenton, and Reva and
Robert Kahn; brother and sister-
in-law, Lawrence Soberman and
Coco Wright; sisters-in-law and
brother-in-law, Julie Blair, and Cathy
and Ken Shiovitz; many loving
nieces, nephews, cousins, friends
in Michigan and San Miguel de
Allende, and his family at Mercury
Paint.
Interment was at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. Contributions may be
made to Karmanos Cancer Institute,
4100 John R, Detroit, MI 48201, kar-
manos.org; JC3/CHESMA, shalom-
sanmiguel.org/give-support; Jewish
Hospice and Chaplaincy Network,
6555 W. Maple, West Bloomfield,
MI 48322, jhcn.org/donate/trib-
ute; or to a charity of one’s choice.
Arrangements by Ira Kaufman
Chapel.
