pants my mom and I have gotten
from the store. We wear them
completely differently, but they’re
the same pieces.”
Friedman, who, with her broth-
er, Shelby, began helping out in
her dad’s store when she was little,
became full-time when she was
23, then back to part-time since
marrying and having young kids
at home. “When my dad started
his business in his 20s, his cus-
tomers were his age,” she says.
“They would bring in their moms,
and mom and daughter would
continue shopping together for a
long time. Eventually, the younger
generations would say, ‘Oh, well,
grandma shops there, my mom
shops there — I can’t shop there,’”
says Friedman, who wore her dad’s
sweaters throughout high school
and college. “Now, since I wear
clothes from here and my friends
wear clothes from here, we’ve
started getting younger women
coming in. And once they’re in the
door, we keep them coming back
by catering to them, as well.
“I ran into a friend from high
school who was in town for the

holidays, and she said she went to
the store with her mom. She was
so excited; she told me they both
got the cutest things. She’s in her
low-30s, her mom is in her mid-
60s, and they both got things they
love from the store,” Friedman
says. “There’s not a lot of places
you can do that.”
These days, Rothenberg says
he wakes up in the morning and
realizes “how blessed I am with
my family that surrounds me, my
work family, and every customer
that walks in my door,” he says.
“He’s a big personality; he’s one

of a kind,” Friedman says. “And
he’s very good at what he does. He
taught me to treat everyone exact-
ly the same, to give everybody
the same opportunity, to have
respect for everybody. He’s still
in business because of this. My
dad is really good at helping all of

his customers feel confident and
comfortable. He makes sure that
everyone feels their very best.”
Always thinking toward the
future, Rothenberg says that he is
always available to guide young
people who have a desire to do
what he does.
“There is still room for growth
in this world that is not on a web-
site,” he says. “It’s about survival in
a world that will always be chang-
ing. I may not be a barrel of infor-
mation, but I’m here to show what
I know. Love and passion can take
you a long way.”
