Jewish Family Service Friends Campaign

One Story. One Gift. One Life Improved.

Sarah came to Jewish Family Service after losing her job and
fearing she wouldn’t be able to feed her family. She is just one
of 15,000 community members we are honored to help each
year. Every person has a story, a family, and a future worth
fighting for. But we can’t do this vital work without YOU.
Your support provides critical services ensuring individuals
and families never face hardship alone.

Council Re|Sale in Berkley will be holding many
special sales this holiday season and into the new
year as construction gets underway for the store’s
expansion. The store will be taking over the adja-
cent store and will house the home décor depart-
ment, the men’s department and an expanded dona-
tion area. Council Re|Sale is operated by National
Council of Jewish Women, Michigan (NCJW|MI)
and is known for carrying high-end clothing,
including designer wear, jewelry, shoes and house-
hold items all donated by the community.
The store is currently celebrating its 90th anni-
versary, so on the 19th and 29th of each month
there will also be 90% off sales on specific items

through June 2025. Details of the construction and
anniversary sales can be found at councilresale.net.
“
As construction gets underway at our store, we
are excited to offer outstanding items of clothing
and accessories, plus home décor, at almost give-
away prices,” explained NCJW|MI President Amy
Zeskind. “We encourage the community to stop by
and enjoy shopping for themselves and their loved
ones without having to be stressed at the prices.”
Proceeds raised at Council Re|Sale, which was
originally opened in 1934 in Detroit, go toward the
many community impact projects and social advo-
cacy work which NCJW|MI, a 501(c)(3) organiza-
tion, run to benefit local families.

Council Re|Sale Holding Special Sales as
Store Begins Work on Expansion

The Board of the Michigan Israel Business
Accelerator announced that its current CEO,
Scott Hiipakka, will be leaving at the end of the
year for an executive-level position
in the financial services sector.
Over the past five years, Scott
and his team have generated
over $20 million of combined
economic activity between
Michigan and Israel; established
The Elevator, a first-of-its-kind
landing zone for Israeli startups
in the U.S.; and, perhaps most importantly,
established the culture and operational
framework to drive MIBA’s continued growth.
The board has asked Mark Davidoff,
founding MIBA board chair as well as
president and CEO of The Fisher Group,
to re-assume the interim leadership role, as
he did during Scott’s military
deployment in 2023, and to help
define the key characteristics of
MIBA’s next leader. Scott will
support the transition, working
with Mark and the team to close
2024 strong and continue that
momentum into 2025.
