MITCHELL JULIAN 
RYCUS, 92, passed away 
Nov. 27, 2024, in Ann 
Arbor. 
Born on June 20, 1932, 
Mitch lived a life marked 
by curiosity, joy and a profound 
commitment to improving the world 
around him.
Mitch was renowned for his 

vibrant personality and his ability 
to uplift everyone he encountered. 
His life was a testament to living 
authentically and passionately, 
breaking conventional barriers 
and embracing every adventure 
that came his way. His humor, 
strength and caring nature left a 
lasting impact on all who knew 
him. A lifelong learner and sharer 
of knowledge, he let curiosity 
fuel many adventures throughout 
his 92 years, bringing joy and 
enlightenment to himself and others.
After attending three years at 
Cass Technical High School in 
Detroit, Mitch dropped out of 
high school and joined the Navy 
during the Korean War; he served 
on a destroyer as a Navy Hospital 
Corpsman.
Following his service, Mitch took 
advantage of the GI Bill to attend the 
University of Michigan, where he
