close to the time he started working
on pottery. The idea was to live near
relatives.
Goldstein uses equipment at the
Michigan Art Center in Garden City
to put his design ideas into usable
forms, and he has made plates with
Jewish stars. This season, he plans on
having some 150 pieces to sell at the market.
Linda Lefkowitz is in her fourth year at the
market.
“I like doing pottery with my grandchildren,
” said Lefkowitz, who will be
showing bowls, planters, platters and ornaments among the many choices for
buyers. She also has sold her themed work at a Chanukah boutique conducted
by Congregation Beth Shalom in Oak Park.
Interest in making pottery started when Lefkowitz became an empty nest-
er, and she learned many pottery crafting techniques by studying at Oakland
Community College in Royal Oak. She was glad to be invited to participate in
the Potters Market.
Lefkowitz, who lives in Southfield, finds the process of making pottery very
relaxing, and she enjoys looking at the work of the other sellers who have
designed items especially for the event.
“It’s great to see how talented all these people are,
” she said.
