NOVEMBER 21 • 2024 | 61 BETH (WEINGARDEN) RISEMAN, former Detroiter of California, died Nov. 9, 2024. She was born in Detroit on St. Patrick’s Day, 1943. She grew up in Detroit, graduating from Mumford High School, followed by the University of Michigan (1964). She worked as an elementary school teacher, raised three children and completed her M.S.W . at Michigan State University. She practiced social work in Lapeer, until moving to Grand Blanc in 1995. She moved to Rossmoor in Walnut Creek, Calif., in 2014 to be near her children and grandchildren. Beth met Carl Riseman at a political event in Detroit, and they married in 1965. They loved to travel, socialize and volunteer together. Both were very involved with Temple Beth El in Flint. Beth had a great sense of adventure, a quirky sense of humor and was daring in ways that were often delightfully surprising. Being a mother and grandmother were Beth’s greatest joys in life. She is survived by daughter, Rebecca (Nick) Schoen; sons, James (Kate) and Daniel (Judy Bernstein); grandchildren, Max, Josh, Elliot, Zach, Aya, Zoe, Alexa and Olivia. She was predeceased by her par- ents, Leo and Geraldine (Towlen) Weingarden; sister, Marcy (Bill) Dickieson;, and husband, Carl. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research, the Alzheimer’s Association or the Anti-Defamation League. DAVID N. SHORE, 65, of Huntington Woods died on Oct. 18, 2024. He was the beloved hus- band of Dr. Helen Shore; dear father of Douglas Shore and Elizabeth (Curt Pulleyblank) Shore; caring brother of Anita (Stan) Dreyfuss. She is survived by her sons, Devan Sipher and Darol Sipher (Angelo Pacella), and other loving family. She was the cherished wife for 57 years of the late Jerome Sipher; the dear sister of the late Ernest (Linda) Hertz; the beloved daughter of the late Eileen Starkstein Fine (the late William Starkstein) and the late Albert Hart. Interment was held at Mount Sinai Memorial Park in Los Angeles. A memorial service was held at Temple Israel in West Bloomfield and is avail- able to watch online at irakaufman. com.
